Yarrow - Red Velvet
Yarrow - Red Velvet The Yarrow Red Velvet, Achillea millefolium 'Red Velvet' , is a clump-forming herbaceous perennial with stunning deep, wine red, non-fading, four inch flower heads. These striking red flowers appear on deep green lacy foliage from mid-summer to early autumn. If you cut or deadhead the blooms promptly, it will rebloom for weeks! Prune Red Velvet to the ground level and add a nice dose of manure each winter to enhance foliage growth. This yarrow benefits from a layer of mulch to retain soil moisture, but does grow under poorer conditions since it is drought tolerant. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Divide clumps every 2 to 3 years in early spring. Remove faded flowers to encourage more growth and divide every 3-4 years. For an attraction to butterflies, deer and rabbit resistant, one can’t go wrong with this plant. This bright red colored yarrow will put on a very colorful show when planted in mass plantings; also use, in containers, as a landscape specimen or in borders. * Drought Tolerant * Long Bloom Period
