Daylily - Chicago Orchid - Sale Price: $49.95 The Daylily 'Chicago Orchid', Hemerocallis 'Chicago Orchid', is a favorite summer blooming perennial with large clumps of long grass-like leaves with showy clusters of orchid lily-like flowers on tall stems. A midseason bloomer, this 'Chicago Orchid' plant produces several flower stalks with up to a dozen buds.  The buds open in series, but a flower lasts only a day, giving the plant its common name, Daylily! Daylilies grow vigorously, help suppress weeds, and are generally free from pests and disease.  They thrive in full sun or light shade and tolerate many types of soil.  In areas that receive less than 6 hours of sun during the day, your daylilies will probably produce fewer and smaller blooms, and the foliage may not be as robust. The grey-green leaves have serrated edges and they form an upright clump. The leaves are also brightly variegated. The bright pink flowers in mid-summer change to a bold red in the fall. Their stout, sturdy stems support large flower heads and if left standing, they provide winter interest and food for birds during the late fall and winter. Hosta - Pineapple Punch - Sale Price: $42.75 The Hosta Pineapple Punch, Hosta 'Pineapple Punch', has narrow, rippling, extremely ruffled, lance-shaped leaves that start off creamy yellow, and then turn white.  A lovely sport of Pineapple Upsidedown Cake, Pineapple Punch is medium sized with an arching mound. It displays light lavender blossoms on tall flower scapes in late summer.   Since 'Pineapple Punch' is an excellent grower, spreading from underground rhizomes, it makes an outstanding border plant or groundcover! Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5.  Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots.  It is best to keep areas around hostas clear of excess leaf debris to reduce the presence of slugs and snails.  Plant 'Pineapple Punch' in an area that receives the right amount of light.  The leaves need some morning sun to bring out the best coloration; too much sun will burn the leaves.  It is most at home in shady, woodland settings and often works well as specimen or edging plants. Winner of the 2001 RHS Award of Garden Merit, Coreopsis ‘Zagreb’ is a little shorter than the rest of the Coreopsis family. With a plant height of 15” and a spread of 12-18”, its delicate dark green foliage has an airy and delicate appearance. ‘Zagreb’ should be planted in full sun. It is drought-tolerant and tough but does need well-drained soil. It should be cut backing early and late summer to extend the bloom period. Coreopsis Zagreb looks great with any type of grass, in borders or mass plantings in sunny gardens. It is very effective in naturalized areas, rock and cottage gardens or wild gardens.
