Japanese Tree Lilac - Sale Price: $96.35 The Japanese Tree Lilac (2002 Iowa Tree of the Year), with its attractive multi-stemmed clump form and ravishingly fragrant, creamy-white panicles, now graces many residential yards as well as parking lots, medians and commercial properties. Landscapers love this plant for its interesting spreading branches and vase-shaped crown, its long June-through-July blooming season and its very easy care. Ruddy, cherry-like bark and neat, dark green leaves contrast nicely with the creaminess of the flowers. The Japanese Tree Lilac needs at least six hours of good sun for flowering and likes regular watering, but has no fussy soil requirements. Be careful to avoid using lawn fertilizer around the plant base, or you may encourage more foliage than flowers. If pruning is needed, do so right after flowering. Zones 3-7.

Aucuba - Gold Dust - Sale Price: $106.95 The Aucuba Gold Dust, 'Aucuba japonica 'Variegata', is a compact growing evergreen shrub 6 to 10 feet high and has slightly less in spread w ith large glossy dark-green leaves heavily sprinkled with yellow spots. This plant will brighten any shady location. The glossy foliage appears to splashed with yellow paint. Gold Dust responds well to pruning. It can be kept severely pruned to a compact three foot by three foot shrub. Prune in the spring before new growth begins. It is ideal as a dense screen and in difficult spots in foundation plantings. It is excellent for urban sites and stands up well to inner-city pollution. Aucubas prefer shade and will thrive in the shadiest of spots, even under trees where no grass grows. 'Gold Dust' will flower in early spring and produce red berries in October.

Juniper - Kallays Compact - Sale Price: $92.75 The Kallays Compact Juniper, J. chinensis 'Kallays Compact', is a dwarf, shrubby, pfitzer-type juniper that typically grows to only 3’ tall but spreads to 6’ wide with horizontally-spreading branching that forms a somewhat flat top. Foliage is attractive year round and fragrant when crushed. 'Kallays' is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. It is tolerant of a wide variety of soils including clay, wet soils, and some drought once established. Also tolerant of many city air pollutants. Use in rock gardens, foundations and as a low hedge.

Pussy Willow - Black - Sale Price: $49.95 Pussy Willow - Black, Salix gracilistylus ‘Melanostachys’ is a quick growing shrub with flowers/catkins that form along the stems of the plant. The procession of black catkins resembling little black caterpillars can range from a half-inch to two inches in length, starting small early in the season, then lengthening and changing color as they mature. The female catkins stay flat black until well-expanded, but males will add a fine-textured, silky red to orange staminate haze. Black Pussy Willow will spread aggressively by underground roots and above ground suckers, but you can prune this plant pretty severely to keep it in check. The nearly toothless leaves on the upper surface are deep green, the lower a soft gray-green. The leaves often take on a tattered appearance by fall; tree will occasionally produce a yellow fall color display. Although it does not like standing water, the Black Pussy Willow does like to have water nearby. Planting it in full sun will help keep some of the fungal problems in check. It is quite tolerant of many soil types as well as moderate road salt and pollution exposure. The branches, along with the catkins, can make elegant and divine bouquets.

Peashrub - Siberian - Sale Price: $19.95 The Siberian Peashrub, Caragana arborescens, is large rounded shrub that is well adapted to exposed, cold, dry, and other difficult sites. It has showy yellow pea like flowers that appear in late May. The bark of the trunk and stems retain a greenish color for several years. The small leaflets are medium green in color. The Peashrub is often used as a windbreak or tall informal hedge. The Peashrubs are cold and drought tolerant. When planting for hedge, place plants about 4-5 feet apart. Siberian Peashrubs are deciduous and have low water requirements, and a moderate salt & alkali tolerance. If you have an area that is extremely difficult, you may want to try this shrub! The fruits are also enjoyed by wildlife. This peashrub is very low maintenance!
